A Busy Summer for One New Humanity, but Impactful

Every time I would go to write a quick update, something else would come up. The summer was busy in a good way. We are excited to be growing our team with new staff and volunteers committed to our mission—here are a few highlights.

  1. We hired five high school-age students to work at Sylhet Farm. They all worked hard, learned a ton, and served the community well.

  2. We extended our hours at Joy Thrift and tripled our sales goals. We never ran out of quality inventory, thanks to generous donors and collection drives.

  3. We had a record number of volunteers, around 236 who came once this summer and around 44 who served at least three times, 14 weekly.

  4. We signed a lease on a new community space and have been working hard to get it approved for occupancy to restart programming for Sisterhood Fitness.

  5. Sisterhood Fitness has hosted monthly field trips and regular walking clubs for women in the community.

  6. We hired four new staff, including our first Executive Director, whom we will share later.

  7. We had 71 people rent 114 plots at our community garden and hosted over one hundred thirty people at our first annual community potluck.

  8. We are partnering with a social entrepreneur, Katherine Slevin, to start C-Love Baking Academy in Hamtramck. She has been testing recipes on us all summer 😋.

I appreciate your support,
